Chilling Out in Ibiza (by staying the winter)

Welcome to my new blog, which will revolve around the magical island of Ibiza towards the end of the 20th Century. This was a wild time in lots of ways, and I always thought that someday, somebody would write a brilliant book about it.

Well, as time went by, many of the people who I thought would write that book have passed away, and I seem to be the one who has humbly accepted the role of scribe for the times and the places. Maybe not as brilliant a book as some would have written, but I hope that it will still bring pleasure to many.

Please feel free to have a look at my blog posts, and please do leave a comment. I want to know what works and what doesn’t, what people are interested in and what bores them silly, what people want to learn more about. In short any help you can offer me will be gratefully received. Please use the contact form below if feel the urge!

  1. Well my love, I am behind you all the way. As they say “behind every good man………….”.

Your book will be and is brilliant so get it out there x

    1. Thanks for commenting so quickly Ian, and thanks for your encouragement? I am getting a move on – but I thought I would try and get some feedback before approaching publishers.

  2. There I was. A mere 9 year old child , plunged into a life I had no idea about, what seemed a million miles aways from my life in England. Roads made of dirt not Tarmac, trees that grew these strange things only to be called Algarobas. Then the high jump came, it was school day. My first day at school in this wierd but wonderful country. I’ll never to this day forget it , I was dropped of and greeted by what can only be described as a gentleman. His name was john. John tunks.
I was given a tour and introduced to the various teachers in this what seemed somewhat “Alice in wonderland school”
It was that day I met Mr Andrews. The science teacher. A warm welcoming smile and I favoured science over geography. Don became a friend of the family and I’m still to this day yet unable to forget the lesson on dissection. Very informative providing you pre booked and took the fish into school with you ! Zoe was never the same from that day on.
Then came ibiza now. Don became editor of the local rag for English people abroad, accompanied by his then wife giz. We left the island a few years after as a family but I returned for holiday with my now ex partner and will never forget the welcome I got from don as I looked in on him in the office at ibiza now. Today some 20 years later we remain friends on facebook and I sincerely hope one day we could meet again. Don (mr Andrews) is a true gent and a legend in my life.

  3. Yes Mr Don Editor Andrews, I remember the day when I was sacked from that very paper Ibiza now – Adie McHuck agony aunt extraordinaire was never more to soothe and solve the problems of the trouble ex pats of Ibiza, although to be fair I think it was Giz who axed me – after some comments from ‘the outraged of San An’
Anyway, write on senor Don – can’t wait to see what you come up with x
